Tantalizing Treasure

WALT..Describe what Taonga is. We started the first week of our last term with an interesting topic: Taonga. We were given four examples of Taonga and we had to pick one to explain about why it is a Taonga. I chose the Land and Sea. What I found fun was learning new things about Maori. What I found hard was explaining the topic in my own words. To improve next time I will add more information of why the Taonga is valued. Here is my slideshow:

Shy Spinach Struggling

Every after holidays our class writes a recount about our holidays. This term we did it differently but still applying the same tense: past tense. We had to write a story with a character that could be a food or object etc. The character that we chose would be us, the narrator. I chose a Spinach because it is an easy vegetable to eat for me. I enjoyed doing this because it was different from what we usually do. To improve my work next time I will add more expressive words. Check out my Planning. Here is my story:

How a Vegetable struggled

I was with my fellow green vegetable family while resting in a sprayed transparent plastic bag. I’m a common veggie that wanted to be eaten, a Spinach. It was already Summer but in my situation the atmosphere was cold. The feeling of the chillness made me more lonely and depressed. I felt abandoned because I witnessed sad moments everyday, children and even parents were ignoring my bright but somehow dark presence.

Before I was in this cold place, I was transported from an old and fragile village to a prestigious supermarket. I once thought I was a special vegetable until days continued to end I was still waiting for someone; to buy me. “Grrr! I hate you Spinach!” An innocent kid grabbed me violently out of the blue and threw me to a cold metal push cart. Was I finally being bought? That was what I thought while large human beings in front of me continued doing their busy business.

After being crushed by my relatives: Lettuce and Broccoli, I was placed in a shiny and clear sink to be washed. It felt very relaxing but some parts of me fell off. A hand grabbed me. shockingly I felt a warm feeling from where I was placed. I was being cooked! Happiness surrounded me, beautiful flowers blooming and birds chirping was in my background.

Finally, I was floating in a warm and deep bowl looking at the innocent kid who looked very annoyed and irritated. “Hurry up and eat your soup, dear” The mum of the kid shouted from afar. “I’m not eating this!” Screamed the kid. “Why wouldn’t you?!” asked the mom angrily, releasing hot smoke from her red nostrils. “A spinach soup is not edible, it has a really disgusting visual for innocent children!” “Well little kid, a spinach is very healthy and green, it gives you a lot of nutrients. It tastes delicious as well. You haven’t even tried it did you?” The mum responded with a smirk, it made the innocent kid frown knowing that he lost the debate.

In the end I was eaten, my mission accomplished and it felt really amazing. At first I thought I wouldn’t be able to complete my mission. Next time I would probably be re-born and do something more challenging and fascinating.
