Cell Phones are Toxic

WALT.. write a persuasive text. For the past two weeks we started to create a persuasive text (Should Cell phones be banned?) . What I found hard was using words that can persuade my audience. What I enjoyed was finding out facts that I didn't know about phones. Next time I will try to improve my persuasive writing by adding more facts and using words that can strongly persuade my audience.

Cell Phones should be banned in School

I affirmatively believe that Cell Phones should be banned in School. Cell Phones are extremely distracting, addicting and can be used for cheating. Do you think that they are a good influence for you and/or your children?

It is certain that cell phones are overall distracting for children, and even parents. If your child have their phones all the time, there is a high chance that they also use their phones during class. Children this century always try to keep up in social media, if one kid use their phone others will be influenced to do the same thing. Once they they have their focus on their cell phones they wouldn’t have the ability to listen in class. Students will have no idea what they will be learning about and will have a negative result in the end. Cell phones are indeed distracting.

Cell phones are also addicting. Children this generation can’t take their complete attention off their gadgets. For example, you ask your children to do something for you and they reply ‘wait’ or ‘let me finish watching this first!’. That is because they put their phones as their first priority before others. Everything that children does at their house applies everywhere; our actions starts in the house. If this situation happens in school it wouldn’t be pleasant. Especially students in high school; they need to be able to communicate with others in able to have friends they could bond with. Instead of having their head down low looking on the screen for a exceedingly  long time, not communicating with people. Did you know that the vibration of a cell phone can cause damage to your brain? Using cell phones for a very long time is also extremely unhealthy. Therefore, cell phones are addictive and unhealthy just like sugar.

Last but not the least, cheating. Cell phones can be used for cheating when students don’t study for their exams/ quizzes etc. Students are too lazy to study because of cell phones: they use cell phones for cheating. There are many bad influences that a cell phone can do to your child. Students get sneakier the longer they stick with their phones. I strongly believe that children lack self control when it comes to their phones.

Without a doubt, cell phones are overall distracting, addicting and influences students to not study. There are many consequences that a cell phone can do to an innocent child. Therefore, I strongly believe that cell phones shall be banned in school. Do you still think that cell phones should be allowed in school?

  1. Great work Trinity, You have used a great structure for your text. I can clearly understand your position on this topic in your opening statement. I too think social media can be addictive for some people. Next time you could make sure your text is in a consistent tense e.g. instead of addicting, you could write addictive. I enjoyed reading this and keep up the great work.

  2. Hi Trinity,
I think you've done amazing on your persuasive text. You have used good word choices. I am sure you have persuaded many others, you've backed up your opinion and reasons. I, myself was really convinced and I could see what you are trying to reach out on. I'm looking forward to more work like this, keep it up!
